Miranda sets up a lot of work for this particular rote. She has only ever used it on a willing, awakened subject, although it could be performed on anyone.
Miranda sets up a comfortable place for the subject to lay down and meditate or sleep. Bare earth is preferred, although any location will suffice in a pinch. She uses a boiling cauldron of herbs and incense on one side of the subject and various burning incence at each of the four cardinal directions around the subject. She then spends a number of turns gathering the magical energy needed to complete the effect, entering into the subjects dreaming mind and attempting to unlock hidden memories from within the subject.
SYSTEM
This is almost always an extended ritual, in order to garner a large number of successes. The Mage must garner enough successes to forge a telepathic link with the dreaming subject and be able to direct her dreams into her subconcious. Once there, she attempts to unlock the barriers surrounding hidden memories. If the memories are being actively blocked by some magical means, the Mage will require Mind 4 to attempt to break through the barriers. With the use of Time she can send herself further back in time through the dreams, perhaps into the dreams of those who are no longer present to obtain information.
Miranda uses a variant of Life's Blood to empower the ritual and make success easier.
Each success on the effect allows the Mage to delve into deeper areas of the subjects subconcious. It is up to the storyteller to determine how many successes the Mage needs to get to the information sought, or if it is even possible at the Mage's current level of power.
This ritual is usually considered coincidental, although the presence of a sleeper witness may well make the effect vulgar.
